Watched Pride and Prejudice a few days ago...

Believe it or not... I used to be crazy over Jane Austen's novels... whether it is Mansfield Park, Sense and Sensibility, Emma, Persuasion or the most distinguished of all.. Pride and Prejudice..

I've read them. In both English and translated chinese versions. Imagine that.

Used to find a subtle beauty of things in that era. You know... about the way Jane Austen's characters spoke always beguil me.

For example... Mr. Darcy was rejected by Lizzie in the movie.. and he went...

"Might I ask why with so little endeavor of civility I am thus repulsed?"

which simply stripped down to

"Why did you reject me?"

Frankly, I have a theory about this...

Er hem... look..

the century of Little England is one where entertainment and distraction are rare... so in order to kill time... they gotta speak in such grandiloquence.

After all.. there is not much to do...
